To use a OneNote planner, you need: A free, personal Microsoft account. Your OneNote files will be saved and synced on OneDrive across all your devices. Every free, personal Microsoft account comes with 5 GB of OneDrive storage. Please check your OneNote planner’s file size and ensure you have enough space on your OneDrive. OneNote, which is a free program and app available for download on Windows, Mac OS, iOS, and Android from here. All OneNote planners need to be imported to your OneDrive account before you can use them. This is a one-time process that should be completed on a computer for best results. Otherwise, you may need to import your planner to your personal OneDrive account instead of your work/school account. There are three importing options available for work or school Microsoft accounts: Option 1: Using a .onepkg File (Windows only) A .onepkg file is a OneNote package file that will load the notebook to OneNote directly, which is included in your purchase. You simply need to double-click on it to open it. However, not all versions of OneNote can open this file. The following versions of OneNote CAN open a .onepkg file: Any version of OneNote that comes with Microsoft 365 or Microsoft Office on a Windows computer OneNote that comes with Windows 11 All Mac users and users with OneNote for Windows 10 (free version that comes with Windows 10) CANNOT open a .onepkg file and must use the other options below. Option 2: Sharing the Notebook to Your Business Account Proceed with importing the OneNote notebook to a personal Microsoft account by following the PDF guide that came with your purchase or by following the video tutorial here. Share your planner to your business account. Make sure you give your business account editing rights so that you can edit the notebook from your business account. A dated planner has all the days pre-numbered, much like a traditional paper planner. Everything is set up for you so that you can start using the planner right away. An undated planner does not have the days pre-numbered on the monthly and yearly calendar pages, which allows you to re-use the planner year after year. Before you can start using the planner, you would need to manually fill in the days on the monthly and yearly calendar pages according to the current year. Since some OneNote planners have large file sizes, it may take a few minutes to upload depending on your internet speed. If the upload is taking over an hour, there are a couple of possible reasons: You may not have enough space on your OneDrive. All personal accounts come with 5 GB, and Microsoft 365 accounts usually come with 1 TB. Please check the file size of your OneNote planner and make sure you have enough space on your OneDrive. Try importing the files on a computer and not a mobile device. It would allow you to save your files to a more easily-accessible location. Try using a different browser and/or incognito mode. For best results, please use Google Chrome incognito mode. Make sure pop-ups are enabled for your browser. If your browser blocks pop-ups automatically, then the upload may not be completed. You should see a similar pop-up window as the one below: If none of the options above worked for you, we can copy the notebook sections to a new notebook. This process takes a bit longer, but will get the job done if no other methods work. Please refer to this section for more information on the process.

This message usually means the wrong folder was selected during the import process. Please make sure you have extracted the zipped folder and open the folder named "OneNote Import Files". Inside, you should find one folder, or multiple folders if your OneNote planner has different variations. Select the variation of your choice to import. Please double-check with the PDF instructions guide that came with your purchase and/or the video tutorial.

When that error message appears, usually it's caused by the following reasons: You manually moved or uploaded the .one files (OneNote files) to your OneDrive account. For example, did you drag and drop the .one files to OneDrive? If that's the case, please follow the online importing process outlined in the tutorial video to ensure that the notebook is imported properly. You double-clicked on the .one files from your download folder. This may cause the file to not work properly - please refer to the PDF manual or tutorial video. If neither of the above cases apply to you, then you can try some of the following options below: Option 1: Open the Notebook Through OneDrive Online (Windows only) Close the notebook on your OneNote program on your desktop and wherever else you have it open (i.e. iPad, tablet, phone, web browser). Head over to www.onedrive.live.com or www.onenote.com/notebooks. You may need to sign into the Microsoft account you had imported the planner to first if you aren't already signed in. Find the planner you had imported and double-click on it to open it within your web browser. On the menu bar, click on the "Editing" button and select "Open in Desktop App". This should open the notebook in your OneNote program. Make sure you close the browser page once you are finished. Option 2: Check the Folder Properties For Windows users: Right-click on the zipped folder and select "Properties". In the "General" tab, make sure the "Read-only" attribute is unchecked. Do the same once you've extracted the folder as well before proceeding with using the online OneNote Notebook Importer. For MacOS users: Select the downloads folder and choose "File", then "Get Info". If the the information in "Sharing & Permissions" isn't visible, click on the arrow ">" (you may need to scroll down). Select a user or group in the "Name" column, click the pop-up menu, then make sure the privilege setting is set to "Read & Write". Option 3: Share the Notebook to Another Account You can try sharing the notebook to another Microsoft account you own to see if that fixes the issue. Make sure you give your secondary account editing rights so that you can edit the notebook from your secondary account. For MacOS users, follow this article. For iOS users, follow this article. Option 4: Copy the Sections to a New Notebook Open OneNote on your desktop and create a new notebook. Make sure you are signed into the account you would like to save the notebook to. Open the planner you are having trouble with, right-click on one of the sections, and click "Move or Copy". A pop-up window with a list of your notebooks will appear. Select the new notebook you've created and click on "Copy". Repeat this until you've copied over all the sections. You can refer to the section titled "How do I copy notebook sections to a new notebook?" for a more in-depth guide.

If the page is blank when you try to access the online OneNote Notebook Importer, it may be because your language is not set to English. To do this, you can go to onenote.com to change your language first, then try accessing the OneNote Notebook Importer again. This is a known bug on Microsoft's side and unfortunately, this is the only workaround so far.

If you are having trouble with your download and none of the troubleshooting methods on this page worked, you can try this method. Essentially, I will share a fresh copy of the planner you've purchased, and you will manually copy over the notebook sections to a new notebook you've created on your end. This should only take a few minutes, depending on how many sections are in your purchased planner. To get started, make a new notebook on OneNote on your computer. Make sure it is saved to the Microsoft account you would like to save your new planner to. Message me for a OneDrive link to a blank copy of the OneNote notebook. Once you click on the link, the OneNote notebook will open in your browser. For Windows Users: Click on the purple button that says "Viewing" located along the top of the page. From the dropdown menu, click on "Open in Desktop App". You should either be redirected to the OneNote program on your desktop, or a pop-up window will appear titled "Open OneNote?". It should read: "https://onenote.officeapps.live.com wants to open this application." Click on the "Open OneNote" button to be redirected to the OneNote program on your desktop. It may take a few minutes for the notebook to load completely. For Mac Users: Open OneNote on your computer and select "File", then "Open Notebooks". Select the notebook that has been shared with you from the list and load it. It make take a few minutes for the notebook to load completely. Make sure you have the new notebook you've created earlier and the shared notebook open on OneNote at the same time. Navigate to the shared notebook, right-click on the first notebook section, and click on "Move or Copy...". The notebook sections should be located horizontally across the top of the page, or listed vertically. A pop-up window should appear. Select the new notebook you’ve created, and then click “Copy”. Repeat Steps 4 and 5 until you have copied all the sections over to your new notebook. You can rearrange these sections by clicking and dragging them to your desired location. NOTE: If your planner contains section groups, you will not be able to copy an entire section group over. You will need to manually copy the sections inside the sections group, then create a new section group by right-clicking on a section and selecting "New Section Group". You can then drag and drop the sections into the new section group. Make sure author initials are turned off by selecting the “History” tab (if you don't have this tab, select the "View" tab) and select on “Hide Authors”.
